Hale delivers major construction projects for Local Authorities, Housing Associations and the private building market, working with a wide range of subcontractors throughout South Wales. Hale Construction also has its own timber frame company, Seven Oaks, which designs and manufactures innovative timber frames and roof trusses with strong environmental credentials. This enables Hale Construction to use the highest quality materials in its work. Hale today employs over 130 individuals and is looking to recruit the next generation of its workforce, who will be engaged on schemes we are developing in partnership with Wales & West Housing.

Hale has worked with Wales & West Housing (WWH) building homes for the Social Housing sector for 5 years. In 2018 Hale were delighted to be confirmed as one of the eight contractors WWH will be working with on a pioneering project to build 6000 affordable new homes in Wales. The decade-long partnership will enable Hale to retain existing employees, create opportunities for local sub-contractors as well as bring about new employment and training opportunities for individuals looking to work in South Wales.

Trainee Site Manger (fixed term contract)

Locations: Initially based at Clive Lane Cardiff, then working across multiple sites in Cardiff.

Hours: 39 hours per week (overtime at request of site manager if needed)

Salary: TBC

We are looking for a Trainee Site Manger to work across the schemes we are delivering in Partnership with Wales & West Housing. The applicant must have a good attitude towards site safety.

This opportunity will initially be based at Clive Lane in Cardiff. The contract is a 12-month fixed term contract which may be extended if the person is able to work at multiple locations across Cardiff.

What will you be doing?

There will be a variety of tasks within your working day. You will be assisting the site manager in delivering a high standard of construction to our client. You will be expected to take instruction from the site manager, and carry out efficiently and safely.

Hale would like to hear from you if you:

  • Have a good awareness of construction and site safety issues
  • Hold or be willing to complete the appropriate training to hold a CSCS Card
  • Be able to travel across Cardiff to different sites

What will be in it for you:

Hale are providing an opportunity to develop someone who is interested in a career in the construction industry. Full training will be provided to carry out the role including completing the CSCS qualification. The site manager will be guiding you in learning and understanding everything that is needed to become the best site manager in the construction industry.

Labourer (fixed term contract)

Locations: Initially based at Chiltern Close Cardiff until – February 2020.

Hours: 39 hours per week

Salary: Living Wage

We are looking for a Banksman/Labourer to work across the schemes we are delivering in Partnership with Wales & West Housing.  

This opportunity will initially be based at Chiltern Close in Cardiff. The contract is a 12-month fixed term contract which may be extended if the person is able to work at multiple locations across Cardiff.

What will you be doing?

There will be a variety of tasks within your working day, these could include cleaning our properties, mixing mortar, cleaning windows and other general duties. You will be the main person on the ground providing drivers and pedestrians with site safety instructions and supporting the team to maintain a high level of health and safety onsite.

Hale would like to hear from you if you:

  • Have a general awareness of site safety issues
  • Hold or be willing to complete the appropriate training to hold a Labourer CSCS Card
  • Be able to travel across Cardiff to different sites

What will be in it for you:

Plumbing apprenticeship (Fixed term contract for the duration of the apprenticeship)

Locations: Working across multiple sites in Cardiff, initially based in Chiltern Close, Cardiff and Clive Lane, Cardiff

Hours: 39 hours per week

What will be in it for you:

We are pleased to offer an apprenticeship opportunity for someone who is looking to develop a career in the construction industry.  With us you can expect to receive:

  • support and supervision for your day-to-day training to give you every opportunity to complete your apprenticeship/traineeship
  • time off work to complete off the job training
  • a safe working environment
  • formal training and assessment, whether taken on or off-the-job, paid in working time

You will follow a City & Guilds QCF based qualification at level 2 or 3.  The Diploma will involve theory and practical assessments, online examinations and site visits by an assessor to observe how work-based evidence is carried out. You will be assessed in the workplace against the course framework and required to produce a portfolio evidence against framework criteria covering topics such as cold and hot water services, hot water heating systems, installation of boilers and maintenance. 

Unpaid work experience opportunities

Locations: Chiltern Close, Cardiff and Clive Lane, Cardiff

Hours: Flexible to be agreed per person

Salary: Not applicable as these are unpaid work experience opportunities

Our work experience opportunities are designed to provide individuals who lack the experience, skills and/or knowledge in specific field or occupation to observe professionals in a work environment. Individuals can join us for 1 day or for longer depending on their needs.

We can offer work experience for individuals looking to gain an insight into the following trades:

  • Groundwork and Scaffolding
  • Bricklaying
  • Plumbing
  • Window fitting
  • Carpentry
  • Electrics
  • Dry-lining and plastering
  • Painting and Decorating
