Preservation and innovation combine in this beautiful historic rebuild
The Argyle Chapel scheme regenerates an iconic part of historic Swansea to provide 18 one and two bedroom flats for the local community.
The nineteenth century chapel is a listed building but had fallen into disrepair and was fire damaged in 2002. Hale worked closely with local designers to preserve the original structure while, at the same time, restoring the building for safe use.
Hale developed an environmentally friendly timber frame structure, which slots inside the listed shell and supports the bespoke housing units. Our sister company, Seven Oaks Joinery, worked with the Welsh government’s environmental service (CADW) to place traditional wooden frames in all windows and doors. Stonework, columns and mouldings were either repaired or replaced, again through consultation with CADW.
The result is a beautiful, historic building reborn. The chapel now serves local housing needs, looks fantastic once more, and showcases our sustainable and innovative construction solutions.
