Sustainable, innovative, inspirational... this is what construction should be
Hale is proud of Garwnant Visitor Centre because it represents so much of what we think is important in construction.
The southern gateway to the Brecon Beacons, the centre is one of South Wales’ leading recreational sites, providing access to the local community, and education about this incredible place.
The centre is constructed from locally sourced timber and Hale recycled slate flagstones from the previous site to complement the distinctive and striking architecture. As part of the construction, water was tapped from an onsite well, but to minimise future impact on the environment, Hale installed state-of-the-art waterless toilets.
Fully aware of the fragile nature of the site, Hale worked closely with ecologists to sustain and restore habitats for wildlife, including bats, bees and a host of other insects.
The centre is innovative and value adding, boasting a high-tech conference room, information centre, terrace restaurant and coffee shop and fully accessible Changing Places facilities.
The scheme won a Sustainability Award at the South Wales Building Excellence Awards.
Plenty of reasons to be proud.
