St Marks Church, Swansea

Description
The scheme involved the demolition of the existing structure to allow the construction of 13 flats with underground car parking facilities.

The basement car park was constructed using reinforced concrete walls with permanent concrete block shuttering. The ground floor was constructed using pre-cast concrete beams with a structural screen above. The main structure was timber frame clad with concrete block covered in through render.

Internally the flats and corridors were plasterboard and skim on fully insulated walls. MVHR units were installed to all units with plumbing and electrical installations designed to welsh assembly standards.

The basement car park was fully tanked to prevent ingress of water and required mechanical ventilation as natural through ventilation was unavailable.

Some of the stone walling was recycled and used in the cladding to the basement and a limited amount of the stained glass was reused in the windows.

Points of Interest
The church contained plaques commemorating those lost during the war. The plaques were carefully removed and placed in storage for future installation.
